Default showing on Equifax credit report but I have settled this?

Hi,

I had a Visa credit card and ran the debt too high, I thought I had paid it all back by 2004 and had moved house so received no more correspondance. but then I got refused credit in June 07.

I attained my credit reports and found that I owed 鎷?20.00 on this card, which I immediately phoned up Natwest and settled.

Out of curiosity I have looked at my upto date credit reports again today and found that it is worse than I thought.

There are 2 defaults relating to the same 鎷?20 the first from Nawest in 2003 and the second from a company called Trident Credit Services, who were contracted to chase me for the outstanding.

My questions are:

Should the default from Natwest now be marked as settled?

Should the second default be there at all, and if so should this also be marked as settled?

Thanks for any help

JP

Yes they should both be marked as settled, though they will stay on your report for 7 years. It does take some time (months maybe) for it to show up on the report though. If it has been more than 3 months since you settled it, call them up and ask why it has does not show settled on the report. You can also put a comment in your report.

You can contact the credit bureau and provide proof that you paid off your debt. That should resolve the issue.

All defaults or settlements, slow paying, will be kept on file for six years irrespective, default notice makes it very difficult to get further credit
