My mom is in the hosp (hospice care). do i pay her credit card bills? can i still charge on them for

when she dies, it will all come out of her house anyways. i%26#039;m not responsible for her debts. don%26#039;t know how long she%26#039;ll live, but i%26#039;m leaning toward not paying them at all. she only has social security.

Unless you are an authorized user on the CC%26#039;s no. You have no right running up bills you are not even going to pay the minimum on. IF you have a legally binding POA document signed by her while she was in her right mind then you can use the cards for her benefit only. Some will not even recoginize that document.

I see your point in not paying the bills (only kind of) but not running up more bills.

ADDED

Nerdy is WRONG YOU are NOT responsible for the debts unless you are authorized user etc. The estate is responsible and the executor/ix is responsible for paying all the bill they can out of that estate.

ADDED

%26quot;You will be responsible for her debts as next of kin, they will bill you, so you would be smarter to take care of the bills now.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!

your debts dont go away when you die. her estate, you, will be responsible for her debts when she passes away.

You need to be asking this question of her lawyer. If you are her power of attorney, you can be held responsible for any and all bills that remain unpaid. If you do not pay them, you will end up owing interest and fees on the charge accounts.

I am a bit more worried about the fact that you are talking (writing) about your mother dying as if it means nothing. Something is wrong with this picture.

If you don%26#039;t pay the bill high interest will accrue and the money will eventually come out of your inheritance (the house). If you are the only heir then you will come out ahead if you pay out of your own pocket. IF you have brothers and sisters get them all to chip in and help. At least pay the minimum to avoid late fees.

Kelly is right on the other answers are very misleading.
